Is Photoshop Bad for Photography
The use of Photoshop to post process photos can be controversial. Without getting into all the arguments for or against the application, this article will focus on one aspect that should be considered legitimate use.
Shooting at events can be problematic because the photographer does not have full control. This is especially true of backgrounds.
While much could be accomplished in the darkroom, the degree and amount of control in Photoshop is much superior. It is not just about image blending; factors of luminance, light source, scale, and pose must be considered. And in ability to address these issues Photoshop is clearly the better choice not only for time to produce but to get the best harmony of image elements.
It certainly tells a much better story when the background relates to the foreground. It is not a flight of fantasy but just good artistry.
